ABOUT THE OAT SHED
Welcome to your new favourite artisan coffee, event and social space.
A contemporary, vibrant space for local talent and people.
Somewhere that makes a difference, championing local small-scale businesses and producers, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their work in our venue on the high-street.
Our space endeavours to bring together the community and serve as a social hotspot, providing a leisurely space with unparalleled food and drink with a mission to transform traditional catch ups.
We hope to inspire you to connect and reach for new connections and feel free to network and hope that in our space you feel a little less lonely. So much of communication happens over technology that our worlds can feel a little isolated at times and in those times we will be there waiting for you.
LOCALLY SOURCED
The story behind our produce matters to us. Each of our suppliers are carefully selected and tested by us.
Each chosen supplier is local to Kimberley meaning everything you enjoy at The Oat Shed is produced by small-scale independent businesses within the Nottinghamshire area *where possible*.
FAIR TRADE AND ORGANIC COFFEE
Our coffee is carefully sourced and roasted through a local Nottingham roaster. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s origin is super important that’s why our coffee beans are sourced from Bolivia through a fantastic program called ’Cafe Femenino’.
The Café Femenino coffee program is one-of-a-kind ethical sourcing model committed to ending the cycle of poverty affecting women coffee farmers across the world. Café Femenino provides direct compensation to women farmers, along with the opportunity and resources to enact positive change in their communities and on their own terms.
One of the first advancements the women in Bolivia achieved upon joining Café Femenino was having their names included on the titles to their land. This may sound trivial, but by doing so, the land remains with each woman if she becomes abandoned or is widowed, thereby providing protection from further poverty for herself and her children. Psychologically, this act instills a sense of value and ownership over each woman’s livelihood and business. This is a powerful means of creating self-esteem for women who are accustomed to being viewed as servants to their husbands.
